Assembling an Italian charm bracelet is simple. The links can be pulled apart to expose the "hooks" where your can slide the Italian charm off.

Italian charms link together with a loop on the back of the starter bracelet that hooks to the Italian charm. To add an Italian charm, the links need to be expanded outward. Pressing down on the Italian charm with your thumb will keep it in place.

It is important to use your thumb, not your fingernail. Using your fingernail may pry the decor off of the charm even if they are soldered.  The video below, courtesy of Pandora Beads, will illustrate how to take your charms apart.

An Italian charm bracelet can be assembled and disassembled with your hands. However, special tools are available to ease the process. Tools designed for Italian charm bracelets may be especially helpful for beginners.  I use the tool below and it can be purchased on ebay for a very small price. A nail file or another strong and small object will also work well, though the risk for scratching the Italian charm bracelet is greater with a tool not designed specifically for this purpose.
